Stephen Gouthro is a registered clinical psychologist who received his Bachelor of Science with Honours from Acadia University in 1985 and his Masters of Science in Applied Psychology from St. Mary’s University in 1989.
Stephen provided inpatient psychological services to adolescents and adults at the Nova Scotia Hospital between 1989 and 1997. From 1997 to 2001 Stephen was the team lead and a psychologist for the Adolescent and Children’s Day Treatment Program at the IWK Health Center. From 2003 to 2015 Stephen was located at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility where he provided clinical services and conducted court ordered young offender assessments as a psychologist for the IWK’s Youth Forensic Services. He retired from that position in August of 2015.
Stephen employs a bio-psycho-social perspective and is eclectic in his clinical approach. Stephen typically adopts a cognitive behavioural approach. His therapy work also emphasizes solution focused, strength based approaches that recognize the importance of therapy as a collaborative process.
